“Being a Woman Architect

As in other professions, a segregation between men and women does exist in

the architectural profession. One example is the access to big public facilities

commissions.

Still we need a little bit of patience. As I sometimes remind female

students that are too often convinced before hand that they won’

t succeed,

“Someone said that the 21st century will be feminine.”

Some are convinced

about it and know that we don’

t have to wait any longer. This has nothing to

do with a revanchist attitude, nor even with

‘feminist first place’

. No, it is

rather a calm certitude to avoid having to be in opposition. Others, however,

after one or two internships affirm the choice not to be willing to sacrifice

their personal life to their work. This also gives a certainty and force to

students. Contrary to men, they have the choice: men don’

t really have an

alternative.
