Abstract
Motor is key component for portable washing
machine. Measurement and examination of dc motor
are important issue for ensuring quality of portable
washing machine. Automatic measuring and examining
can save much time and improve identification
accuracy. It is very helpful for keeping high quality of
products. In this paper, an automatic measurement and
examination platform based on powerful LabVIEW is
designed and implemented. LabVIEW is easy for
monitoring and data acquisition. Motor parameters are
recorded and analyzed simultaneously by applying
LabVIEW. Automatic measurement and examination of
dc motor with high performance is developed in this
paper.

1. Introduction
The parameters, including of transient current,
steady current, temperature, and dissipated power of
DC motor, have a close relationship with property of
motor. It is necessary and important to examine motor
before motor is mounted in portable washing machine.
In this paper, an automatic measurement and
examination platform of DC motor is developed for
portable washing machine developed by Chi-Yu
Company. By using the platform, automatic quality
control can be reached. Besides, a lot of human power
can be saved. The portable washing machine and key
component motor is shown in Fig. 1.

2. The Proposed Method
2.1 System Overview
In this paper, LabVIEW system (Laboratory Virtual
Instrument Engineering Workbench) is applied to
automatic measurement and examination platform for
portable washing machine. It can simplify and speed
the development of automatic measurement and
examination platform. Because LabVIEW has
powerful interface support, a visual instruments system
based on LabVIEW can be easily set up [1-3]. In this
paper, important parameters, including transient current,
steady current and temperature, are measured and
analyzed for motor quality control. Fig. 2 shows an
overall system of automatic measurement and
examination platform. The overall system contains two
parts that are hardware system and software system.
LabVIEW effectively integrates hardware system and
software system.
