Notes for Consultant
•In order to set up an effective consulting practice, the first and foremost thing that you must
do, is to determine the type of work that you like to do. There is no point in developing a
business that you are not passionate about. You can not successfully consult to other
SME’s (owners who are passionate about their business) if you can’t reciprocate the same
levels of energy within your own.
•Using the SNAQ in the BPIP materials, you will first need to conduct an industry review.
This review will analyse all opportunities that may be facing your consultancy practice.
The idea is to target an industry that you are interested in and that meets your client
selection criteria – the type of clients you want to work with.
•Conduct a technical jobs review and establish what resources and technology your
business needs in order to operate efficiently and effectively.
•The next step is to prioritize them in the order of preference from most preferred to least
preferred.
